eBay Adds Local Shopping Options to Product Search

PCMag.Com - eBay announced enhancements to its Local pages on Thursday, announcing an opt-in beta to check the inventory of products at local stores.

The enhancement means that users who opt in at eBay's Local site now receive a third tab to their search results: in addition to "Auctions only" and "Buy it Now," users will see a "Local Shopping" tab as well. That tab will, naturally, list the prices and merchants who sell the item nearby.

The search is powered by eBay's acquisition of Milo.com, which tries to "bring every product off every shelf, from the physical world to the Internet in real time," said Dane Glasgow, eBay's vice president of engineering, at the Web 2.0 Expo in San Francisco on Thursday. Through Milo integration, consumers can access millions of products from approximately 50,000 stores across all 50 states, eBay added.     Read More
