PCMag.Com - If you were planning on buying your very own "Steve Jobs in Carbonite" iPhone case, you're out of luck. Not long after it went on sale, Apple sent a cease and desist notice, and the product was pulled.The case featured Jobs—complete with his signature jeans, black turtleneck, and glasses—trapped in Carbonite, just like Han Solo in Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back.
The parody case was listed on Society6, a company that sells art prints and products, for $35. It fit the iPhone 4, 3G, and 3GS and was advertised as impact-resistant—but not made of actual Carbonite.
This uber-geeky and perhaps a bit twisted case, pandered to Apple and Star Wars fans, gaining a great deal of attention—including that of Apple. Although there's no indication that it did, Lucasfilms may have been able to make a case against the product's use of Carbonite, as well.
On April 27, Greg Koenig, who appears to have designed the case, wrote a note on the Society 6 Web site. "Well it was fun while it lasted. Yesterday, Society6 was issued a cease and desist from Apple's lawyers. So I'm sorry to say that the cases and skins are no longer available," he said. Read More
