3DS users will have access to the update starting Monday night Pacific time over the air. It will add an Internet browser, as well as access to the new Nintendo eShop, which will include "Pokedex 3D," an app that lets users see Pokémon characters in 3D. Users will also have free access to a 3D version of the NES game "Excitebike" until July 7.
The eShop will feature original 3D software, classic games remastered in 3D, 2D Game Boy and Game Boy "virtual console" color games, and more than 350 Nintendo DSiWare games. Nintendo DSi and DSi XL owners can transfer most of their downloaded DSiWare games to the 3DS.
More content will be added to the eShop on Thursday, Nintendo said. Upcoming games includes "Super Mario Land, "Alleyway," and "Radar Mission." Also on the horizon is a free app for a short-form video service that will let users watch things like 3D movie trailers, comedy clips, and music videos via SpotPass.
On the Pokémon front, "Pokedex 3D" lets users rotate Pokémon images 360 degrees and zoom in to view from any angle. Data can be shared with friends via SpotPass or by scanning special Pokémon augmented reality markers. When you receive data for a Pokémon, the AR Viewer lets you view that Pokémon image in real time and create photos to share with friends, Nintendo said. Read More
